SHELLPOINT BEACH | TARGETING REDS & SPECKLE TROUT | Crawfordville, FL

Thanks to Chris for inviting me on their annual guys fishing trip. Thanks to John, Andy, and Clay for letting me tag along.

We spent 2 days targeting Red fish and Speckle Trout. Live shrimp on a popping cork was the number one contributor to fish in the boat. On the kayak I towed a Frabill Flow Troll to keep live shrimp. I purchased 2 cheap spinning combos, 7′ MH with 4000 size reel. One spooled with 30lb braid and another with 17lb mono. This seemed to cover most needs for targeting Red Drum and Speckle Trout.

The trout we found in a school on a deeper hole at high tide, the reds we found on the grass lines on high tide.

We stayed near Shellpoint Beach in Crawfordville FL. The tides are no joke in this area. If you do not make it to a channel as the tide drops you will find yourself on a nearly 1/2 mile flat island that quickly appears. Be warned, don’t wait until the last minute.

  1. So happy to see our sweet Merry Anna(the boat) serve you fishermen well! We have enjoyed your video! If you ever want to borrow her again, let us know! Greg & Mary Seigler

  2. I feel I love with the “Forgotten Coast” in 2017. I’ve fished from St Marks to St George. I try to make it down 2-3 times a year.
